How to Write an Effective Introduction

Introduction presents the overall scope of the academic writing by identifying the background of the study along with research questions used, methodologies and paper outline. A comprehensive introduction part is probably the most effective portion to grab the attention of the readers and in order to get good grades. The statements written in the article should be the key topics that are to be discussed in the paper, it’s wise to include references from credible journals and books to back your research. If any acronyms are to be used in the paper then introduction is the part where they should defined and briefed. This should be kept in mind that Introduction section is the starting of your report therefore it should not include any element of deep research or conclusion from the study. Always write the introduction part as brief as possible and you must write the introduction of the study that you have ended up after doing the entire research work after discussions and findings (Pechenik Jan A., 1993). Writing introduction in last gives you a more comprehensive set of words that you can include, since you’ve already completed the entire paper.

Structural Parts of an Introduction

An introduction should be based on some important parts including

–       Background of the study

–       Question to answers

–       Definitions of the important terms used in report

–       Use credible and famous Journals and Books for references

–       Outline of the content included in the entire report

In background, briefly explain the concept and understanding to the reader about your presented topic. The writer must explain the definitions of the keywords used in the academic writing that may be unfamiliar with the reader to narrow down your topic. The language in introduction part should be coherent with rest of the paper, followed by the statement of research this will give the reader essence of what this paper is about and what to expect. First of all, you must compose the thesis statement and then focus on the body paragraphs and then you can develop the introductory paragraph. Finish the writing in your academic writing approach with your conclusion paragraph by identifying the main cause of your thesis writing (Mark Pennington, 2009).

Main Parts in Introduction Writing

Background: In this part, make clear the context of the study by making it short and precise and it should be condensed within a paragraph.

The Problem: The purpose of the research is to address a particular problem or a scenario, therefore state very clearly for which reason you are writing this academic writing in report writing or other forms of writing. You must tell the reviewer why he is proceeding with the readings.

The Proposed Solution: In this part of the introduction writing, show the contribution of your report by highlighting the novel aspects of your work. Then you must show the anticipation of the conclusion, related work and main outline or complete plan of the paper in your introduction writing (Sandro Etalle, 2004).

Paper Outline: Presenting outline of the entire paper is highly recommended by majority of the academic professionals as it maps a story line in the reader’s mind about the paper. And is also significantly important in setting the expectation of the reader, of what to expect in the report.
